By booking a service, checking the agreement box at checkout, and entering your name as your electronic signature, you ("Client," "you") agree to the following terms. Please read them carefully. If you do not agree, do not book.

1. Agreement & Electronic Signature

By checking the box at checkout and typing your name, you agree that:

  • You have read and accept these Terms of Service, Disclaimers, and Authorization to Perform Work.
  • Your typed name and the checkbox constitute your legal electronic signature, valid under the federal E-SIGN Act and applicable state law, and carry the same legal effect as a handwritten signature.
  • You consent to conduct this transaction electronically and to receive service records, reports, and notices electronically.

Grave Detail records the date, time, and version of the terms agreed to with each booking.

2. Services & Scope of Work

Grave Detail provides cemetery monument cleaning, preservation, optional flower placement, and limited repair services. All services are performed personally by the owner, Josh Grogan.

Cleaning & preservation is available on granite, marble, bronze, concrete, and sandstone, using preservation-first methods and Endurance Gravestone & Monument Cleaner, a conservation-grade product formulated for cemetery stone. Grave Detail does not pressure wash, use bleach, or use improvised methods.

Repair work — crack repair, joint sealing, and inscription repainting — is available only on granite and marble, and only when a monument genuinely requires it. Grave Detail does not perform repair work on bronze, concrete, or sandstone, and does not perform structural work such as resetting, restacking, lifting, or rigging of monuments or monument components. If a monument needs repair beyond what Grave Detail can perform safely and correctly, Grave Detail will tell you and refer you to a qualified monument maker. Grave Detail does not upsell repairs that are not needed.

Flower placement is provided as a bundled placement service. The price covers arrangement selection, transport, hand placement at the monument, and photo documentation of the placement.

Service area. Grave Detail serves cemeteries within approximately 150 miles of Benton, Missouri, across Missouri, Illinois, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Bookings outside that area may be declined or quoted separately.

Any work not expressly described in your booking is outside the scope of these terms.

3. Authorization & Permission to Perform Work

This is the most important section. By booking, you represent and warrant that:

  • You are the owner of the plot or monument, the next of kin, or a person otherwise legally authorized to authorize cleaning, preservation, flower placement, and/or repair of the specified monument.
  • You have obtained, or are responsible for obtaining, any permission required by the cemetery, its owner, or its governing authority for the work to be performed.
  • You authorize Grave Detail to access the cemetery and the specified monument and to perform the booked services.

If any of these representations is untrue, or if a dispute arises with the cemetery, another family member, or any third party regarding the work, you agree to indemnify and hold Grave Detail harmless from any resulting claims, costs, or damages. Grave Detail relies on your authorization in good faith and is not responsible for verifying ownership or family authority.

If a cemetery denies access or prohibits the work on arrival, the visit may be rescheduled or cancelled, and travel fees already incurred may apply.

4. Preservation Methodology & No Guarantee of Cosmetic Results

Grave Detail's work follows preservation-first methods aligned with the National Park Service's Preservation Brief 48, the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties, and research from the National Center for Preservation Technology and Training, with the foundational ethic of do no harm.

You understand and agree that:

  • Monuments age, weather, stain, and deteriorate over time. Grave Detail cannot guarantee that any monument will return to its original or "like-new" appearance. Permanent staining, etching, biological damage, and material loss may not be fully reversible by safe cleaning methods.
  • Some cleaning results continue to develop over weeks or months after treatment as biological growth dies back and weathers off. The appearance at the time of the after-photo is not the final result.
  • Cleaning and repair results vary by stone type, age, condition, and environment.
  • Photographs of past work illustrate possible outcomes and are not a promise of identical results on your monument.

5. Inherent Risks & Pre-Existing Condition

Older and deteriorated monuments may have hidden fragility, prior repairs, internal cracks, delamination, or weakened material that is not visible before work begins. You acknowledge that:

  • Cleaning or repair of an already-compromised stone carries inherent risk that pre-existing damage may be revealed, or that fragile material may react despite safe, careful methods.
  • Grave Detail will use minimal-intervention, do-no-harm methods and will stop and notify you if a monument appears too fragile to safely proceed.
  • If work is stopped for safety reasons before completion, you will be charged only for work performed, and any remaining balance will be refunded or credited.
  • Grave Detail is not responsible for pre-existing conditions or for damage that results from the inherent fragility of an aged or previously damaged monument when proper methods have been used.

6. Photo Documentation & Media Release

Every visit includes before, after, and condition photographs. These are provided to you as part of your service record, normally within hours of the visit.

Separately, you may optionally grant Grave Detail permission to use photographs of the completed work (including the monument) in marketing, social media, and promotional materials. This permission is requested by a separate, optional checkbox and is never required to receive service. If you do not opt in, your photos are used solely for your service documentation. You may withdraw this permission at any time by contacting Grave Detail, though previously published material may not be retrievable.

7. Flower Placement — Selection, Lead Time & Substitution

At booking, you select a specific arrangement for each placement date. Arrangements are shown at their listed price. Where a compact arrangement is chosen, a credit is applied and shown on your price summary before payment.

  • Placement dates must be booked at least 14 days in advance so that arrangements can be sourced in time. Requests inside that window may be declined or moved to the next available date.
  • Arrangements are seasonal and subject to availability. If your selected arrangement becomes unavailable, Grave Detail will substitute one of comparable value, style, and color, and note the substitution in your service record. Substitution is not grounds for refund.
  • Arrangements are weather-durable silk, not fresh flowers. They are placed at the monument and are subject to weather, cemetery grounds maintenance, removal by cemetery staff, and theft once placed. Grave Detail is not responsible for arrangements after placement is documented.

8. Payment, Cancellation & Refunds

Pricing and payment

  • Prices are as listed at the time of booking. Payment is processed securely through Grave Detail's payment processor; Grave Detail does not store your card details.
  • Travel fees apply by zone as disclosed at checkout: Zone 1 is included at no charge, Zone 2 and Zone 3 are charged as listed. Travel fees may be waived for annual-plan clients as indicated at checkout.
  • Veteran and first responder discounts are applied to service charges at the percentage shown at checkout, and do not apply to travel fees.

How cancellation windows are measured

Cancellation windows apply per scheduled date, not per order. An order containing multiple cleanings or placements is cancelled one date at a time, and each date is governed by its own window. Cancelling one date does not cancel the remainder of the order.

Cleaning visits

  • Cancel or reschedule up to 48 hours before the scheduled date for a full refund or credit of that visit.
  • Inside 48 hours, or if Grave Detail cannot complete the visit because cemetery, plot, or monument information you provided was inaccurate, Grave Detail may retain the travel fee for that visit plus up to 50% of the cleaning charge for that visit. The remainder is refunded or credited.

Flower placements

  • Because arrangements are sourced specifically for your booking in advance, flower placement charges become non-refundable 14 days before the placement date — the same window in which placements must be booked. Before that point, they may be cancelled or rescheduled for a full refund or credit.
  • Inside 14 days, one reschedule to a later date in the same season may be accommodated at no additional charge if the arrangement can be held. If it cannot, the placement is treated as cancelled and non-refundable.

Combined visits

Where a visit includes both cleaning and flower placement, each portion follows its own rule above. Cancelling the flower portion does not cancel the cleaning portion, or the reverse.

Completed services

Completed services are non-refundable, as the work cannot be undone. If you are not satisfied with a completed cleaning, contact Grave Detail within 7 days of receiving your photo report. Where a concern is attributable to the work performed, the remedy is a return visit to re-treat the monument at no charge, scheduled at the next reasonable opportunity. A monetary refund is not automatic and remains at Grave Detail's discretion. Dissatisfaction with the natural limits of safe cleaning, as described in Section 4, is not grounds for refund or re-treatment.

Refunds and disputes

  • Approved refunds are issued to the original payment method and typically post within 5–10 business days.
  • If you have a concern about a charge, contact Grave Detail before initiating a chargeback with your card issuer. Grave Detail will respond within 3 business days. Initiating a chargeback without first contacting Grave Detail may result in cancellation of any remaining scheduled visits on the order.

9. Annual Plans & Automatic Renewal

Annual plans include the number of visits stated in the plan, performed across the season.

  • Auto-renewal: Unless stated otherwise at checkout, annual plans automatically renew for another term at the then-current price. Grave Detail will send a renewal reminder before each renewal.
  • Cancellation of renewal: You may cancel auto-renewal at any time before the renewal date through your account or by contacting Grave Detail; cancellation stops future renewals and is effective for the next term.
  • Visits are scheduled across the season and unused visits do not roll over or refund unless required by law or otherwise agreed in writing.

10. Scheduling, Access & Weather

  • Services are scheduled by season and route, not by exact appointment time, unless otherwise arranged.
  • Work may be delayed by weather, cemetery access restrictions, ground conditions, or events at the cemetery. Grave Detail will reschedule affected visits.
  • Flower placements are scheduled to fall near the holiday or date selected, not necessarily on the exact day, depending on route and weather.
  • You are responsible for providing accurate cemetery name, location, section, and monument identifying details. If the monument cannot be located with the information provided, the terms in Section 8 apply.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law:

  • Grave Detail's total liability for any claim arising from a service is limited to the amount you paid for that specific service.
  • Grave Detail is not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, or for emotional distress, arising from the services.
  • Grave Detail carries $2,000,000 in general liability insurance. Nothing in these terms is intended to waive coverage available under that policy for damage caused by Grave Detail's negligence, to the extent such limitation would be unenforceable under applicable law.

Some states do not allow certain limitations of liability; in those states, the limitations above apply only to the extent permitted.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Grave Detail from claims, damages, and costs (including reasonable attorney's fees) arising from: (a) your breach of these terms; (b) any inaccurate representation of your authority to authorize work; or (c) a third-party dispute regarding the work you authorized.

13. Governing Law & Disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Missouri, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Scott County, Missouri, unless a non-waivable consumer-protection law of your home state provides otherwise.

14. Changes to These Terms

Grave Detail may update these terms. The version in effect at the time of your booking governs that booking. Material changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.

What You'll Sign at Checkout

Before payment, you will be asked to check a required box confirming that you have read and agree to these Terms of Service, Disclaimers, and Authorization to Perform Work, and that you are authorized to approve work on the specified monument. You will type your full name as your electronic signature.

You will also see a separate, optional checkbox granting permission to use photos of the completed work in marketing and social media. That box is never required to receive service.

The date, time, and version of the terms agreed to are recorded automatically with your booking.
